MATERIAL SELECTION

LSR Silicone Rubber: Selection Guidance

Understanding liquid silicone rubber selection

Liquid silicone rubber (LSR) is generally processed from a two-component system with specified mixing and curing conditions. An effective material evaluation begins with part geometry, target production rate, equipment capabilities and grade-specific physical properties.

Review the supplier technical datasheet for component mixing ratio, viscosity, cure behavior, hardness, tensile strength and elongation. A technical value cannot be transferred from one grade to another without supporting documentation. Before selecting a formulation, consider molding conditions, pigment or additive compatibility and the expected service environment.

LSR sourcing checklist

  • Confirm the injection or other processing route and equipment requirements.
  • Specify the target part dimensions, finish, hardness and color.
  • Review mixed-material handling, storage and curing documentation.
  • Identify any grade-specific testing or compliance documentation needed.

Compare related material families in the product catalog, read the technical guides, or submit a material selection inquiry.

QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

LSR Silicone Rubber FAQ

Why does LSR have separate A and B components?
Many LSR materials are supplied as two components that must be mixed at the specified ratio before curing. Use the exact grade documentation for correct handling.
What information is needed for an LSR quotation?
Share the application, processing equipment, required properties, color, estimated order volume and any applicable document requirements.
Can viscosity be compared across different LSR grades directly?
Only when the measurement conditions and units are comparable. Temperature, equipment and method can affect viscosity readings.
